Boston Public Library accepts donations year-round for their Quarterly Book sales. Donations of books and magazines can be dropped off at the administration desk at the Copley Square Branch. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Got Books - Serving the local community by working as a professional fundraiser for local charities and nonprofit groups. We do this primarily by hosting charity book sales in our warehouse located in North Reading, MA. Our books are supplied by residents and groups who have donated Books, CDs, Videos, DVDs and more through our exclusive pick-up service. Reader to Reader provides books to the nation’s poorest communities including inner-city schools, Native American reservations, and poor rural towns. More Than Words is staffed by "youths at risk". They sell used books both online through Amazon and other web-based book sellers. The revenue goes toward paying the young people. Their mission is to give these kids good business skills and experience, and to help them move into employment by companies. They are looking for any used books, except for paperback "mass market" best sellers, which are already flooding the market. Examples of what they want are: Hard cover, non-fiction, art, philosophy, cooking, textbooks (within past 3-5 years). Anything that would sell online would be great. Hands Across the Water is a 100% non-profit book charity that distributes book donations to needy areas in the U.S. and worldwide. The next time you hear about a flood or tornado, they might be there to help the schools and libraries rebuild their collections. They have bins in several communities. Salvation Army: Donations may be dropped off at any Salvation Army location. Picks up of furniture may be arranged by calling 1-800-958-7825. Tax receipts available.
Good Will: Accepts clothing, shoes, accessories, books, toys, small working appliance and computers, antiques and collectibles. No large items, paint, mattresses or cribs. They DO NOT pick up. Call 1-800-664-6577 for a drop-off location.
Big Brothers: All types of clothing and small reusable household items such as dish linens, small appliances, toys, knick-knacks, books and small furniture (capable of being picked up by one person). They sell the goods to thrift shops to raise money for their programs. Call 1-617-542-9090 to arrange pick up.
Planet Aid: Collects clothes in drop boxes to be sold in their own stores or sold to clothing recyclers or donated to HUMANA People to People projects in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Drop Boxes located at: Bread and Circus ( Washington street, Brookline) and Hunan Garden (corner of Harvard St.. and Aspinwall Ave.)

Boston Building Materials Cooperative in West Roxbury accepts donations of reusable building materials from homeowners, businesses and contractors to sell to low-income families.
